On Saturday, July 24th, U.S. Ambassador James Warlick visited the town of Kavarna to see first-hand the successful projects that have helped improve the quality of life for the Roma neighborhood there.  The ambassador and the Mayor of Kavarna Tsonko Tsonev attended celebrations dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Hadzhi Dimiter Roma neighborhood. The two officials met with Roma leaders and enjoyed the performance by the brilliant Roma musician Ivo Papazov – Ibryama and his group.

Mayor Tsonev and Ambassador Warlick also visited the local kindergarten where they were welcomed by Roma children and participated in a discussion on the successes and challenges the Kavarna municipality is facing in terms of the integration of the Roma minority. The two also toured a revitalized Roma neighborhood where they saw first-hand the newly constructed homes that beautify the neighborhood.  During an on-site press event, Ambassador Warlick told the press that Kavarna can serve as an example to other municipalities of how the integration of the Roma can become a reality as long as there is a vision and political will to make that happen.
